The post is part of of a series of stories that form part of my daily life #mydailylifestories. I use this to learn about myself through others.
“I am happy” was the first statement I could get from Mr Phalgunan. He was my history teacher and he corrected me that he also handled civics. Civics was a small part in our syllabus like moral science but accounted for marks. It dealt with the current social norms and life. P live by himself in a small room apartment. He was still in his trademark long beard, only that it was full white. There was a pile of bedsheets which he told me was worth Rs 25k and donated for the poorest of the poor.
I like to talk to people who are willing to talk to me. Conversations are a rarity and P was very happy to talk for long. I had a lot of questions, a lot that I had to take his cue to leave. P runs the Land Mark Foundation, I could not find it in the internet. His scores of students help him without him asking them, that he didn’t ask me to donate. He was happy, happy that I visited him, had his tea, creates opportunity to help the needy, help kids learn. He lives in Cox Square, Chintadripet, just near to the ParkTown Suburban station in Chennai. These details I like to share as he is a person with limited materialistic things just to sustain himself. Visit him to understand philanthropists.
Landmark foundation provides for the needy, poorest of the poor students with materials that help them sustain their learning journey. With the public school uniforms getting good, the foundation does not spend on those anymore. I am impressed by his vigour and am doing my part by telling all good souls about him and his work.
